The Kids Put Down Their Phones… and Discovered the Magic of Pine, Arizona

Sometimes the best family memories happen when the Wi-Fi gets forgotten.

One of our favorite things about our Pine, Arizona cabin is watching kids discover just how much fun the outdoors can be.

On one family getaway, we gave the grandkids a simple challenge: explore the Pines!

We made little nature boards from old boxes and used double-sided tape. Then they headed outside to explore our property. Before long, their boards were covered with pine needles, wood chips, rocks, pine seeds, acorns, feathers, and all kinds of little treasures they discovered along the way.

They were having so much fun that they didn't even realize they were learning! We talked about what they found, where it came from, and the amazing nature surrounding our family-friendly cabin in Pine, Arizona.

And then came the crafts.  We brought along fun projects for the kids to make, and one by one, the computers and cell phones were put away. No scrolling. No screens. Just family time, creativity, exploring, laughing, and making memories together.

But one of the biggest surprises came right from the cabin deck.

We were lucky enough to watch a group of elk come right by the cabin. Their eyes got BIG as the elk approached! We talked about staying a safe distance away and watched the elk while learning about the males' impressive antlers, the velvet that covers them as they grow, and how elk eventually shed their antlers.

They were hooked!

Honestly, one of the best parts came later on the drive home. We listened to them excitedly talk about everything they discovered, what they learned, the elk they saw, and all the fun they had. And, of course, the question eventually came:

“When can we come back?”

That’s exactly what we hope our Pine, Arizona cabin gives families a place to slow down, put the phones away, explore the outdoors, and make memories that stick with you long after you head home.

Because childhood memories aren't made on a screen. They're made outside, together.
